A useful galvanizing specification identifies the components and drawing revision to be coated. It states the product list, materials and pre-galvanizing work. Confirm that the specified standard applies to the relevant product group. Naming a standard does not resolve missing opening or connection details in project drawings.

What should a galvanizing specification contain?

First identify the damage

Handling or installation may locally damage galvanized coatings. Later cutting or welding can also affect the protective layer. Start by identifying where the surface is affected and to what extent. Match photographs with component numbers; an uncoated area, a surface mark and a colour variation should not automatically be treated as the same issue.
